Media Studies Teacher

About the Role
Are you passionate about media, creativity, and inspiring the next generation of media professionals? We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable A Level Media Studies Teacher to deliver high-quality teaching across the OCR A Level Media Studies specification.
The successful candidate will bring strong subject expertise, practical industry experience, and a genuine passion for developing students’ analytical, creative, and production skills within contemporary media.
Main Responsibilities
• Plan, deliver, and assess engaging lessons across all components of the OCR A Level Media Studies specification, including Media Messages, Evolving Media, and Making Media.
• Teach the four key areas of the theoretical framework: media language, media representation, media industries, and media audiences.
• Deliver practical lessons in magazine design and layout using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and related software.
• Teach a range of OCR set products, including newspapers, online media, magazines, advertising, music videos, radio, video games, film, and long-form television drama.
• Teach and embed key media theorists and academic ideas from the OCR specification, supporting students to apply theory in analytical and practical work.
• Prepare students for written examinations, including unseen analysis, comparative responses, and extended essay writing.
• Guide students through the NEA process, including research, planning, production, and evaluation, ensuring all work meets OCR standards.
• Track student progress, provide timely and constructive feedback, and contribute to internal and external assessment processes.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development, moderation, standardisation, and high-quality teaching practices.
• Participate in departmental meetings, CPD activities, and OCR exam board training where required.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of OCR specification updates, set product changes, and developments within media education and industry practice.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that reflects ethical, global, and contemporary media understanding.
Essential:
Relevant degree in Media Studies or a related subject
• Teaching qualification (or working towards a full teaching qualification)
• Teaching experience (or professional industry experience within media or creative industries)
• Experience of teaching A Level Media Studies or related subjects
• Strong understanding of the OCR A Level Media Studies specification and key media theories
• Experience using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and related media production software
• Commitment to active and student-centred learning
• Commitment to keeping up-to-date with educational developments affecting the work of the College and the subject/course areas covered by the post
• Energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
• Well-developed organisational skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with a committed team of teachers and support staff
Desirable:
• Industry experience within media production, publishing, design, or digital media
• Experience of providing tutorial or pastoral support to students

Terms of Employment
Hours of work: Up to 0.50 FTE
Start Date: 1st Sept 2026
Annual leave: 66 days per leave year (from 1 September to 31 August) (pro - rated for Part time)
Salary: The salary will be on the Henley College Teachers’ Spine from £30,759.00 up to £48,513.00 per annum (pro -rated for part time)
