The Post

The Henley College is seeking a creative Technician to work primarily alongside the photography department but to be willing to be trained in our TV studio and sound booth and order resources for the whole area including art and textiles. The ideal candidate must have experience in setting up and closing down a darkroom and managing a photography studio

Key Responsibilities

  • Key duties of this post include delivering and supporting technical and health and safety workshops and demonstrations to groups of students on equipment, resources, processes and techniques; issuing and receiving equipment and resources to and from stores, including undertaking first line maintenance and maintaining inventories and asset lists; ensuring processes are followed to maintain high standards of health, safety and welfare, under the supervision of photography staff and line management and providing effective and reactive technical support throughout the working day.
  • Daily responsibilities technical support, instruction and supervision to students in the safe and correct use of the relevant machinery, equipment and materials for their required knowledge within their designated course. 
  • Management of photography materials shop, including the ordering of darkroom chemicals, film, photographic paper, etc.
  • Management and maintenance of cameras, including the loaning and following up returns, replacement of broken equipment and organisation of repairs.
  • Understanding and management of the photography darkroom. The candidate must understand how to set up and close down a photography darkroom as well as mix chemicals and give demonstrations

The candidate must be willing to do the following

  • Learn how to set up and use the departments Digital TV studio
  • Learn how to set up the sound booth
  • Management of creative media materials, including the ordering of camera materials and maintenance of TV studio
  • Order equipment for the whole area including art and textiles and liasing with the arts department.
  • Termly audit of each department

General Responsibilities

  • Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may from time to time issue, to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and learners.
  • Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College.
  • To ensure adherence to all College policies and procedures including Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education and IT Policy and procedures.
  • To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
  • To ensure continuous professional development (CPD) requirements as specified by the College and that may be identified during college processes, for example Developmental reviews.
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post.

Essential Criteria

  • Willing to work open evenings when required
  • Willing to work evenings over the exhibition season
  • Desirable Criteria
  • Flexibility in terms of hours
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a pressurised environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students aged 16 – 19

Terms of Employment

Tenure of post: Permanent , Part Time, Term Time Only

Start Date: 22nd April 2024

Hours of work: 30 Hours per week over 4 days

Salary: Up to £22,353.00 per annum (pro rated part time term time only) actual salary approx £15,100.00 per annum
